In May 2010 Rachelle Friedman was at her bachelorette party when she was playfully pushed into the pool. She hit her head on the bottom of the pool injuring her C6 Spinal Cord, which has caused her to be unable to walk or feel anything below her collarbone. Rachelle has been working hard with an occupational therapist and has a great support team made up of friends, family and her fiance, Chris Chapman. Since the accident, Rachelle has been spoken to by the local news, magazines and was featured on the Today Show.
After hearing Rachelle's story, NBC contacted Wake County's Remodeler's Council about remodeling the young couple's home to make it more accessible for Rachelle. We have been given the incredible opportunity to be a part of this remodel by donating new plumbing fixtures, door hardware, and a beautiful Barrier Free Shower that will allow Rachelle to wheel right into her shower without any problem. As of today, we have installed our shower base and the first 2 coats of waterproofing have been applied.
NBC has been filming the remodel which will air on the Today Show towards the end of February. It will also air on George to the Rescue on April 2nd. The film crew and George are a great team and we look forward to seeing how the show turns out.
We will continue to give updates throughout the entire project, so check back for new blogs and photos. Kohler, Toto and Moen are just a few of the companies who have been kind enough to donate their fixtures for this project. When we get closer to the finish line, we will post photos and descriptions of each of the fixtures that will be featured in the remodel.
